Christina Grimmie Laid to Rest in New Jersey: Details
Christina Grimmie was laid to rest in her hometown in Medford, New Jersey, on Friday, June 17, Us Weekly can confirm.
Grimmie’s loved ones and fans paid their respects during a public memorial at the Fellowship Alliance Chapel that started at 3 p.m. ET. A private memorial service for the late singer, to be attended by her family, will begin at 8 p.m. ET.
Grimmie, 22, was best known for placing third during season 6 of the NBC singing competition The Voice. Last Friday, she was shot and killed by 27-year-old gunman Kevin Loibl while she was doing a meet and greet with fans following a concert in Orlando, Florida.
According to TMZ, Loibl was reportedly infatuated with Grimmie. So much so that he got hair transplants and Lasik eye surgery, and went on a vegan diet to try to change his appearance. Grimmie’s brother, Marcus Grimmie, tackled Loibl, who killed himself at the scene.
Marcus opened up about the star’s death during an emotional candlelight vigil in Evesham, New Jersey, on June 13. “Christina was awesome,” he told attendees at the Evesham Memorial Sports Complex. “She loved this town, she loved this state, she loved singing, she loved the Lord and she loved me. She was my baby sister.”
As previously reported, Voice coach Adam Levine paid for Friday’s funeral services. Marcus revealed the sweet gesture on his Facebook page on June 12. “I found out this morning that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for her funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away,” he wrote. “Words cannot express…literally I have no words.”
