The Korn Song Jonathan Davis Regretted Making

Publish date: 2024-06-08

Jonathan Davis has always used music to express his personal struggles, and as the frontman of Korn, he wrote many songs reflecting on his life experiences. This is mainly why Korn fans love their music — the band’s songs resonate with fans due to the relatable nature of their lyrics. Some songs were particularly traumatic for Davis to write and perform, such as ‘Daddy,’ a song about the singer’s experience of childhood sexual abuse. He rarely played the song live and didn’t want to perform it on stage ever again.

However, not all Korn songs discuss mental health issues or traumatizing childhood experiences. It turns out that a song that appeared in 1998’s ‘Follow The Leader’ resulted from Jonathan Davis and Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst’s drunken rhyming duel in the studio. Titled ‘All in the Family,’ the song was full of insults and homophobic slurs both threw at each other. As it seems, all Jonathan Davis saw was regret when he listened to this particular Korn song.

‘All in the Family’ starts with Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst insulting each other on sexual orientation, hygiene, family roots, and several other things. What caused controversy was the ending part of the song, where the two said they would perform sexual acts on each other. This was an intentional irony against the homophobic slurs they both used. However, the media and music critics directed accusations of homophobia at ‘All In The Family.’

Looking back on his career with Korn, Jonathan Davis admitted that ‘All In The Family’ is the worst song Korn ever did. He said he has nothing against Fred Durst or his musical talent, but the song is just horrible. As Davis recalled, they were drunk in the studio at that time and were having a good time, but now he thinks this was nothing but an embarrassing moment. Apparently, he has regretted putting ‘All in the Family’ in ‘Follow The Leader.’

Here is what Jonathan Davis said about the song last year:

“‘All In The Family’ is the worst song ever. It’s horrible. We were all drunk in the studio, and I was trying to rap. At the time, we were having a good time, but now I just cringe. I’ve got nothing against Fred; it just sucks! We were out of our minds drunk! It shouldn’t have made the record.

Despite the criticisms, Fred Durst believed that they were just poking fun at each other with Jonathan Davis. However, Davis wasn’t pleased with how the song turned out in the end. After all these years, ‘All in the Family’ appears at the top of the singer’s ‘most-regretted-songs’ list.
